Nicky Harper No-Hits the Tsunamicanes

3 11 2009

Nicky Harper has been around a while.  The 37 year old pitcher for the New York Bowie Mafia took to the bump yesterday and looked like a spry fox.  He worked ahead of the hitters all day.  The Florida manager said after the game that home plate umpire, dewey cheatum, was giving much love to the vet today and he was obviously, unhittable.  It took 110 pitches and some controversy, but Harper is among the elite now.  Harper got a scare when NY brought in Yamid Velasquez for defense in the 8th and he misplayed a sharply hit ground ball that some argue should have been an infield single.  It was ruled an error and the no-no continued.  Victor Woodard chased a nasty breaking pitch to strike out for the first out of the 9th.  Demaro Tejada was called out on strikes for out number two.  He commenced to tell Cheatum what he thought about the call and Dewey was gonna let him stay in the game until Tejada promptly told him he was #1.  Needles to say, Tejada was ejected and the crowd rose to their feet as Wilson Ryan came to the plate.  Ryan worked the count to 2-1 and then Harper threw a high fastball that Ryan chased and popped up to the 1B side.  Sandy Cooper patted his glove to his thigh and made the catch for the final out!  Congratulations to the old man, he will undoubtedly be put of for trade in the next few days.
